It’s nothing new that businesses will update their look and style over the years to keep with the latest design trends; for example, if you’ve ever seen the evolution of the Coca-Cola logo, or the Facebook logo, you can see how the appearance and style has changed slightly throughout the years.
As we advise our clients on graphic design services in Madison WI, we often discuss the latest graphic design trends. If you haven’t kept up with the latest styles don’t worry; IH Concepts has got you covered. Here are some of the top design trends to be on the lookout for in 2023.
Creative Typography

Typography and text are a design element that allow the uniqueness of brands to really shine through and create a first impression. The font styles and arrangements of letters used can effectively convey information about the brand as a whole.
Some typography such as sans serif, distorted fonts, liquid gradients, flared fonts, condensed typography, and airbrush surrealism have made a comeback to showcase a brand’s uniqueness – from something clean cut and easily accessible to something quirky and creative.

The early 2000s to step back into the design spotlight. Reboots of classic 2000s pop culture are everywhere, and with them come trends like bubblegum pink, holographic designs, cyber-inspired imagery, acid graphics, and shimmery-metallic textures.
New Freedom

With restrictions from quarantine loosened around the world, creative designs have been broken free with a new sense of freedom. Experimental and quirky design trends with elements of motions, nature, and vibrant color schemes have been on the rise in 2023 and are worth keeping an eye on.

Brands that are geared more towards families and young children may be leaning more towards a calming, yet playful color scheme and vibe this year. Soft pastel shades of pink, blue, purple, and green bring a light vibe that creates a comforting feeling.
This subtle style inspired by sweets can maintain a minimal design that captures the eye of the viewer and draws them in. This design trend creates a style that is fun, approachable, and easy to comprehend.
Futuristic Looks
Design trends keep continuing to evolve, and lately there’s been an increase in futuristic designs; these typically are minimalistic with sleek, asymmetrical styles that suggest motion, with long clean lines. For example, some brands might decide to have a Sci-fi style logo.
With consumers now actively seeking out sustainable, all-electric or tech-innovative products, brands that appear to be lightyears ahead of competitors with a futuristic look will have a strong foothold in the eco- and tech-conscious markets of the near future.
Vintage

Vintage looks never go out of style. This design trend combines minimalistic and vintage styles, and pinpointing a particular popular decade to focus on. One example of this would be a vibrant 70’s color scheme combined with a modern font to give it an edgy element and feel.
Escapism
Everyone needs a vacation sometime; that’s why some brands convey the feeling of stepping out of reality with their designs. Escapism designs tend to be adventurous and focus on the imagination and being whimsical. This is a unique design choice that communicates mood, engages a fantasy, and creates a distraction.
Complex Composition

Some designs need to tell an entire story in a single image or graphic; this style is a great way to communicate visual data and is popular for website headers and news articles because it keeps the reader’s eyes moving to capture the entire story/scene. This is usually an image presented in landscape form so it can be viewed from left to right, and is stylistically minimal to include several design elements.
Foundational Diversity

AT&T decided to take step towards diversity and inclusion in the above. An emphasis on diversity and representing all types of people in branding and media has been growing for quite some time, and that’s especially true for 2023.
Diverse designs feature images of individuals of all races/ethnicities, all sizes, and with and without disabilities, to include and represent a wide range of people. This can be done in many ways, but is most effective when it is genuine and believable.
For example, IH Concepts embraces and welcomes models who, even if not conventionally “perfect”, are still able to represent the brand; a higher priority was also placed on models who were able to be themselves and genuine
Looking Ahead
Designs are always changing and adapting to fit what is new and engaging to audiences out there, so it’s important to not only look towards the upcoming trends, but also at design trends of the past.
